Mananya Eats: Ethiopian Food in Southeast Asia Town (Demera)
In Chicago, everyone goes to Ethiopian Diamond. I'm not saying that's a bad place, but sometimes you just have to try something new. Even if it's an Ethiopian restaurant right smack in the heart of Southeast Asia Town/Uptown. This place (across the street from the legendary Green Mill) is quite good. Great prices, extensive menu, helpful servers... but just decent ambiance. I mean.. this place used to be a Chinese Buffet! You can actually still see Chinese decor at the bar area. So so odd.
Try the meesob combos. It's a combo platter of choice (veggie meesob platter, meat meesob platter....). If you are not familiar with the cuisine, I would say, this is your best bet. We had the seafood and meat platters.
But, go. And please please please! Wash your hands before you start eating with them! Wash with soap. 30 seconds, make sure with lotsa suds. Actually, carry those anti-bacterial gels with you, too. Don't eat with dirty hands!
oh, BTW.. those injeeras. They are so squishy soft!
