Mananya Eats: In honor of Poland [Kielbasa, Cheese and Bread]

Food is the best way to connect to people. Through food you can learn about the country's history and the way people live. You can have conversations over a meal with someone who doesn't even speak the same language as you. You can share laughs and smiles. That's one of the many reasons why I have a passion for cooking and eating. It's a universal thing... it's something that we can all relate. For a moment, we forget all about our political and religious differences. Food overpowers hate and war. Well, that's only true until you're done eating. But, it's better than nothing.

In honor of Poland, I went through my photo albums to see what I should share with the rest of the world to tell you about this great country. Sure, I have pictures of beautiful churches, magnificent castles and cobblestone roads, but nah... we need something that you can connect to instantly.

Kielbasa. Cheese. Bread.

It's like the holy trinity. During my most recent trip to Poland, I was lucky to wake up to a grand spread of Polish's finest goods, courtesy of Auntie Anna and Uncle Andrej.

(Ignore the stares you'll get if you're not Polish. I get it every time I go there. These people have seen me the past 15 years greeting them in Polish and walking in with my Polish husband and mother-in-law. But they still don't get it. They still get confused every time I walk in. You will feel uncomfortable, but the 10 different types of Polish sausages, ham, and cheeses is worth the awkwardness. Try their hot foods line! THE BEST. You can get a meal to feed 6 people for $20.)

(For a good 2 hours, you'll think you're in Poland, not South Side Chicago. Bring the kids. They'll love it. )
