Thai food word of the day: "SING" Beer not "SING-HA"

1. Singha Beer (pronouced SING not SING-HA) Let's have a side bar story here. Non-Thais pronouce it SING-HA because it's spelled that way.. but the "A" is silent. I'll tell you a story .. a pretty funny one...I was at VTK in Chicago. Granted, that isnt an authentic establishment, so no surprise this happend.. BUT... when the waiter arrived at the table, I ordered a "SING" beer. The waiter looked at me bewildered and asked, "Excuse me?" I repeated my beverage request. He then corrected me and said, "It's not pronouced "SING" It's "SING-HA.." I said, "No, I diffinitely think it's "SING" (Apparently, he didnt know that I'm 100% Thai). He continued to say, "Trust me...It's "SING-HA" Hmm, soooooo I just let it be ;). That's my "SING-HA" story for you!! Impress your next Thai waitress/waiter at a Thai restaurant and order yourself a cold glass of "SING"!
